For the past several years, I’ve bought the Linnea Poster Calendar, with artwork by Johanna Riley, as a gift to myself—usually in the throes of holiday shopping each December. The calendar, which hangs over my desk in a lucite box frame, includes a new, beautifully illustrated poster for each month, and, because I try to never peek ahead at future months’ posters, changing my calendar each month is always a happy surprise.
A new month represents a new beginning, and this felt especially so today, May Day, with the signs of Spring revealing themselves in increasing abundance. I, having arrived back on Bainbridge just in time to witness all of it, woke with a sense of excitement and purpose. Today was created for the chance to turn a page, to start afresh—specifically, to find a carful of veggie starts for this year’s garden.
Sometimes the tiny details of life align in a beautiful way that restores, in an instant, a sense of balance and order. This morning, when I pulled out the Linnea poster for May—which features, of all things, a beautiful bagged grouping of assorted garden vegetables, I had to smile at the gentle affirmation of my day’s mission and purpose. I placed the poster in its frame, hung the frame back on its hook, and set out for Bay Hay and Bainbridge Gardens.
Today, my calendar and my veggie starts are my joy. #joyinplace
